Ockley's green runs alongside the A29, which follows the route of the Roman Stane Street between London and Chichester, and is regarded as one of the most impressive village greens in the south of England. The Cricketers Arms, once a coaching inn serving travellers on that same road, still stands beside it.

Ockley Cricket Club has played on the green for well over a century, and matches remain a regular fixture of village life through the summer months.
